Method
Dough Preparation
- 1
Make the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Create a well in the center and add the butter and egg. Slowly mix in the water until a dough forms.
- 2
Knead the Dough
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth. Cover with a towel and let it rest for 30 minutes.
Filling Preparation
- 3
- 4
Add Vegetables and Shrimp
Add the diced tomato, bell pepper, and shrimp to the skillet. Season with salt, black pepper, and lemon juice. Cook until the shrimp are pink and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
- 5
Add Cilantro
Stir in the chopped cilantro and remove from heat. Allow the filling to cool before using.
Assembling and Frying
- 6
Roll Out the Dough
After the dough has rested, divide it into small balls. Roll each ball out into a thin circle on a floured surface.
- 7
Fill the Dough
Place a spoonful of the shrimp filling in the center of each dough circle. Fold the dough over to create a half-moon shape and press the edges to seal.
- 8
Fry the Pastel
In a deep skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Fry the filled pastries in batches for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.
