Method
Flatbread Preparation
- 1
Activate the Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- 2
Make the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
- 3
Knead the Dough
Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
Let the Dough Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
Assembly and Baking
- 5
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat up.
- 6
Roll Out the Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a floured surface. Roll it into a flatbread shape, about 1/4 inch thick.
- 7
Add Marinara Sauce
Spread the marinara sauce evenly over the surface of the flatbread.
- 8
Add Cheese and Basil
Tear the fresh mozzarella into small pieces and distribute them evenly over the marinara sauce. Sprinkle salt and black pepper over the cheese, and then add fresh basil leaves on top.
- 9
Drizzle with Olive Oil
Drizzle olive oil over the flatbread for added flavor.
- 10
Bake the Flatbread
Transfer the flatbread to the oven (or pizza stone) and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden and the cheese is bubbly.
- 11
Serve
Remove from the oven, let it cool for a few minutes, slice, and serve warm.
