Pasta

Topping (optional)

Method

Cook Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring water to a boil over high heat.

  2. 2

    Add Macaroni

Once the water is boiling, add 2 cups of elbow macaroni. Cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes.

  3. 3

    Drain Pasta

Once cooked, drain the macaroni in a colander and set aside.

Make Cheese Sauce

  1. 4

    Melt Butter

In the same pot, melt 4 tablespoons of butter over medium heat.

  2. 5

    Add Flour

Once the butter is melted, whisk in 1 tablespoon of all-purpose flour until smooth. Cook for about 1 minute.

  3. 6

    Add Milk

Slowly add 2 cups of milk while continuously whisking to avoid lumps. Cook until the mixture thickens, about 5-7 minutes.

  4. 7

    Add Cheese and Seasoning

Remove from heat and stir in 2 cups of sharp cheddar cheese, 1 teaspoon of salt, 0.5 teaspoon of ground black pepper, and 0.5 teaspoon of paprika until the cheese is melted and the sauce is smooth.

Combine

  1. 8

    Mix Pasta and Sauce

Fold the drained macaroni into the cheese sauce until well coated.

  2. 9

    Optional Topping

If using, mix 0.5 cups of bread crumbs and 0.5 cups of parmesan cheese in a bowl. Sprinkle over the top of the macaroni and cheese.

Bake (optional)

  1. 10

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. 11

    Bake

Transfer the macaroni and cheese to a baking dish and bake for 20-25 minutes until the top is golden and crispy.
