Yuca Puree

Shredded Brisket

Gratin Topping

Method

Yuca Puree

  1. 1

    Prepare the Yuca

Peel the yuca and cut it into chunks. Place the chunks into a pot of boiling salted water.

  2. 2

    Cook the Yuca

Boil the yuca for about 20-25 minutes or until tender. Drain and let it cool slightly.

  3. 3

    Mash the Yuca

In a large bowl, mash the cooked yuca with butter, cream cheese, salt, and black pepper until smooth and creamy.

Shredded Brisket

  1. 4

    Sear the Brisket

Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Season the brisket with salt and black pepper, then sear it on all sides until browned.

  2. 5

    Sauté the Aromatics

Remove the brisket and add chopped onion and minced garlic to the pot. Sauté until the onion is translucent.

  3. 6

    Cook the Brisket

Return the brisket to the pot, add beef broth and bay leaf. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and cover. Simmer for about 2-3 hours or until the brisket is tender and can be shredded easily.

  4. 7

    Shred the Brisket

Remove the brisket from the pot, let it cool slightly, then shred it using two forks. Return the shredded meat to the pot and mix with the broth.

Assembling and Baking

  1. 8

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).

  2. 9

    Layer the Ingredients

In a baking dish, layer half of the yuca puree at the bottom, followed by the shredded brisket, and then top with the remaining yuca puree.

  3. 10

    Add Gratin Cheese

Sprinkle the grated cheese evenly over the top of the yuca layer.

  4. 11

    Bake

Place the baking dish in the oven and bake for about 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.

  5. 12

    Serve

Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your Escondidinho de Carne Desfiada!
