Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease four ramekins with butter and dust them lightly with flour.

  2. 2

    Melt Chocolate and Butter

In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the unsalted butter and semi-sweet chocolate chips. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until fully melted and smooth.

Mixing Ingredients

  1. 3

    Combine Sugar and Eggs

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, large eggs, and egg yolks until well combined and slightly frothy.

  2. 4

    Add Chocolate Mixture

Slowly pour the melted chocolate and butter mixture into the egg mixture while whisking continuously to prevent the eggs from cooking.

  3. 5

    Incorporate Dry Ingredients

Add the vanilla extract, all-purpose flour, and a pinch of salt to the chocolate mixture. Gently fold until just combined; do not overmix.

Baking

  1. 6

    Fill Ramekins

Divide the batter evenly among the prepared ramekins, filling each about 3/4 full.

  2. 7

    Bake

Place the ramekins in the preheated oven and bake for 12-14 minutes, or until the edges are firm but the center is soft.

  3. 8

    Cool Slightly

Remove the ramekins from the oven and let them cool for about 1 minute.

Serving

  1. 9

    Invert and Serve

Carefully run a knife around the edges of each ramekin to loosen the cake. Invert onto a plate and tap gently to release. Serve warm with optional toppings like powdered sugar, vanilla ice cream, and fresh berries.
