For the Onion Rings

Method

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Onions

Peel the onions and slice them into 1/2-inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set aside.

  2. 2

    Make the Batter

In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Whisk together until well combined.

  3. 3

    Add Sparkling Water

Gradually add cold sparkling water to the dry ingredients, whisking until the batter is smooth and has no lumps. It should be thick enough to coat the onion rings.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep skillet or pot, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  5. 5

Coat and Fry the Onion Rings

Dip each onion ring into the batter, allowing excess to drip off, then carefully place them in the hot oil. Fry in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan.

  6. 6

    Cooking Time

Fry the onion rings for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Remove them from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

  7. 7

    Serve

Serve the onion rings hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
