Method

Fish Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Fish

Rinse the fish fillets under cold water and pat dry with paper towels.

  2. 2

    Make the Breading

In three separate bowls, place the cornmeal, flour, and beaten egg. Season the cornmeal and flour with salt, black pepper, and paprika.

  3. 3

    Bread the Fish

Dip each fish fillet into the flour, then into the egg, and finally coat with cornmeal. Ensure the fish is well coated.

  4. 4

    Fry the Fish

In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully add the breaded fish fillets. Fry for 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy. Remove and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.

Cabbage Slaw

  1. 5

    Prepare the Slaw

In a large bowl, combine the shredded cabbage and shredded carrot.

  2. 6

    Dress the Slaw

Add lime juice, salt, and chopped cilantro to the cabbage mixture. Toss to combine well. Set aside to let the flavors meld.

Salsa

  1. 7

    Prepare the Salsa

In a bowl, combine diced tomato, finely chopped red onion, and minced jalapeño.

  2. 8

    Dress the Salsa

Add lime juice and salt to the tomato mixture. Stir until well combined. Let sit for a few minutes for the flavors to develop.

Taco Assembly

  1. 9

    Warm the Tortillas

Heat the corn tortillas in a dry skillet over medium heat for about 30 seconds on each side until warm and pliable.

  2. 10

    Assemble the Tacos

Place a piece of crispy fish on each tortilla, top with cabbage slaw, and finish with a generous spoonful of salsa.

  3. 11

    Serve

Serve the tacos immediately, garnished with extra cilantro if desired.
