Method
Pasta Preparation
- 1
Cook the Fettucine
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the fettucine pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
- 2
Drain the Pasta
Once cooked, drain the fettucine in a colander. Reserve about 1 cup of the pasta cooking water, then set the pasta aside.
Alfredo Sauce Preparation
- 3
Melt the Butter
In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter. Allow it to bubble without browning.
- 4
Add Garlic
Mince the garlic cloves and add them to the melted butter. Sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn them.
- 5
Incorporate Heavy Cream
Slowly pour in the heavy cream while stirring. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, allowing it to heat through for about 3-4 minutes.
- 6
Add Cheese and Seasonings
Gradually whisk in the grated Parmesan cheese until melted and smooth. Season the sauce with salt, black pepper to taste, and a pinch of nutmeg. Continue to cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
Combine
- 7
Mix Pasta and Sauce
Add the drained fettucine to the Alfredo sauce in the skillet. Toss gently to coat the pasta evenly with the sauce. If the sauce is too thick, add some of the reserved pasta cooking water, a little at a time, until the desired consistency is reached.
- 8
Serve
Transfer the fettucine Alfredo to serving plates. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley if desired. Serve immediately while hot.
