Extras

  1. 1

    Prepare the Rice

Rinse the long-grain rice under cold water until the water runs clear. This helps to remove excess starch and prevents the rice from becoming sticky.

  2. 2

    Cook the Rice

In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed rice and 2 cups of water. Add 1 tsp of salt. Bring it to a boil over medium-high heat.

  3. 3

    Simmer the Rice

Once the water is boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan, and let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until all the water is absorbed and the rice is tender.

  4. 4

    Sauté Garlic

While the rice is cooking, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a small skillet over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes, or until fragrant but not browned.

  5. 5

    Mix in Yerba Buena

Once the garlic is sautéed, add the fresh yerba buena leaves to the skillet. Sauté for an additional 1-2 minutes until the leaves are wilted.

  6. 6

    Combine and Season

Once the rice is cooked, fluff it with a fork. Add the sautéed garlic and yerba buena mixture to the rice, along with black pepper. Stir gently to combine and adjust seasoning if needed.

  7. 7

    Serve

Transfer the yerba buena rice to a serving dish and garnish with extra yerba buena leaves if desired. Serve warm as a side dish.
