Method
Preparing the Dough
- 1
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, and ground nutmeg until well combined.
- 2
- 3
Combine Mixtures
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; the dough should be slightly sticky.
- 4
Chill the Dough
Cover the dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate for about 30 minutes to allow it to firm up.
Frying the Donuts
- 5
Heat Oil
In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.
- 6
Shape the Donuts
On a floured surface, roll out the chilled dough to about ½ inch thick. Use a donut cutter to cut out donuts and holes.
- 7
Fry the Donuts
Carefully place a few donuts in the hot oil, frying them for about 1-2 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Remove them with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
Glazing the Donuts
- 8
Prepare the Glaze
In a medium bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth and glossy.
- 9
Glaze the Donuts
While the donuts are still warm, dip the tops into the glaze, allowing the excess to drip off. Place the glazed donuts on a wire rack to set.
