For Grilling

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Ingredients

Gather all the ingredients: slices of hickory smoked ham, American cheese, and sourdough bread.

  2. 2

    Butter the Bread

Spread butter on one side of each slice of sourdough bread. Make sure to cover the surface evenly.

Grilling

  1. 3

    Assemble the Sandwich

On the unbuttered side of two slices of sourdough bread, layer 2 slices of American cheese, followed by 2 slices of hickory smoked ham, and then add another slice of American cheese on top.

  2. 4

    Top the Sandwich

Place the remaining slices of sourdough bread on top of the ham and cheese stack, with the buttered side facing out.

  3. 5

    Heat the Pan

Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat until hot.

  4. 6

    Grill the Sandwich

Place the assembled sandwich in the hot skillet. Grill for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown.

  5. 7

    Flip the Sandwich

Carefully flip the sandwich using a spatula. Grill the other side for an additional 3-4 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the bread is golden brown.

Serving

  1. 8

    Slice and Serve

Remove the sandwich from the skillet, let it cool for a minute, then slice in half and serve hot.
