Method
Preparation of Pickles
- 1
Drain the Pickles
Open the jar of dill pickles and drain the liquid. Pat the pickles dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
Batter Mixing
- 2
Combine Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornmeal, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix well.
- 3
Add Wet Ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk and the egg. Pour this mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. The batter should be thick.
Frying
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a deep skillet or frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 5
Coat the Pickles
Dip each pickle slice into the batter, ensuring it is fully coated.
- 6
Fry the Pickles
Carefully place the coated pickles in the hot oil, working in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown.
- 7
Drain Excess Oil
Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried pickles from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

- 8
Serve with Ranch
