Method
Prepare Dough
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water and sugar. Sprinkle yeast over the top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- 2
Make Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Once the yeast is frothy, add it along with olive oil to the flour mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
- 3
Knead Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
Let Dough Rise
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.
Make Red Sauce
- 5
- 6
Combine Ingredients
Add the crushed tomatoes, salt, oregano, and black pepper to the saucepan. Stir well and let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes until slightly thickened.
Assemble and Bake Pizza
- 7
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat up.
- 8
Shape Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to a floured surface. Roll it out into a 12-inch round, making a thicker edge for the crust.
- 9
Add Sauce and Toppings
Spread a thin layer of red sauce over the pizza base. Evenly distribute slices of fresh mozzarella on top, and sprinkle fresh basil leaves.
- 10
Bake Pizza
Transfer the pizza onto a baking sheet or hot pizza stone and bake for 10-12 minutes until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
- 11
Finish and Serve
Once baked, remove the pizza from the oven and drizzle with extra virgin olive oil. Let it cool for a minute before slicing and serving.
