Meatballs

Method

Prepare the Meatballs

  1. 1

    Mix Meatball Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, minced garlic, eggs, chopped parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.

  2. 2

    Form the Meatballs

Using your hands, form the mixture into three large meatballs, each about the size of a fist.

Cook the Marinara Sauce

  1. 3

    Sauté the Onions

In a cast iron skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add diced onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.

  2. 4

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Stir in the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes.

Bake the Meatballs

  1. 5

    Add Meatballs to Sauce

Carefully place the meatballs into the simmering marinara sauce in the skillet.

  2. 6

    Bake

Transfer the skillet to a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) and bake for 25 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through.

Prepare Toppings

  1. 7

    Top with Ricotta and Basil

Remove the skillet from the oven and dollop the ricotta cheese on top of each meatball. Sprinkle with chopped fresh basil.
