Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Pasta
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the capellini pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- 2
Prepare the Shrimp
While the pasta is cooking, rinse the wild caught pacific shrimp under cold water and pat dry with paper towels.
Cooking
- 3
Sauté Garlic and Shrimp
In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute, until fragrant. Add the shrimp to the skillet and cook for about 3-4 minutes, or until they turn pink and opaque.
- 4
Add Capers and Spices
Stir in the rinsed capers and crushed red pepper flakes. Cook for an additional minute, stirring frequently.
- 5
Make the Tomato Sauce
Pour in the canned crushed tomatoes, and season with salt and black pepper. Simmer the sauce for about 5-7 minutes, allowing it to thicken slightly.
- 6
Combine with Pasta
Add the cooked capellini pasta to the skillet with the shrimp and sauce. Toss everything together to coat the pasta in the spicy tomato sauce. If the mixture seems dry, you can add a splash of pasta water.
- 7
Finish with Fresh Basil
Remove from heat and stir in the chopped fresh basil. Adjust seasoning if necessary.
