Base Ingredients

Method

Preparing the Base

  1. 1

    Combine Milk and Cream

In a medium saucepan, combine 2 cups of whole milk and 1 cup of heavy cream over medium heat.

  2. 2

    Add Sugar and Salt

Add 3 tablespoons of granulated sugar and a pinch of salt to the milk and cream mixture. Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved.

  3. 3

    Heat the Mixture

Continue to heat the mixture gently until it is warm but not boiling, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat.

  4. 4

    Add Vanilla Extract

Stir in 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract into the warm mixture. Allow it to cool to room temperature.

Flavoring the Gelato

  1. 5

    Choose Your Flavor

Select one flavoring from the options provided (Cocoa Powder, Strawberries, Mint Leaves, or Coffee).

  2. 6

    Incorporate the Flavoring

If using cocoa powder, whisk it into the cool base mixture until completely dissolved. If using strawberries, mint leaves, or coffee, fold them into the mixture gently.

Churning and Freezing

  1. 7

    Churn the Mixture

Pour the gelato mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer's instructions until it reaches a soft-serve consistency, usually about 20-25 minutes.

  2. 8

    Freeze the Gelato

Transfer the churned gelato into an airtight container and freeze for at least 4 hours, or until firm.
