Method
Breadsticks
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, salt, garlic powder, and dried oregano.
- 3
Combine Ingredients
Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
- 4
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 5
Let it Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- 6
Shape Breadsticks
Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces (or 6 for larger breadsticks). Roll each piece into a long stick, about 8-10 inches long.
- 7
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- 8
Prepare for Baking
Place the shaped breadsticks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush with olive oil and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.
- 9
Bake
Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
