Fried Pork Chops (Chuletas Fritas)

Rice and Beans (Arroz y Habichuelas)

Sweet Plantains (Maduros)

Salad (Ensalada)

Method

Fried Pork Chops (Chuletas Fritas)

  1. 1

    Prepare the Chops

In a bowl, season the pork chops with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Let them marinate for at least 30 minutes.

  2. 2

    Fry the Chops

In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, fry the pork chops for about 5-6 minutes on each side or until they are golden brown and cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Rice and Beans (Arroz y Habichuelas)

  1. 3

    Prepare the Rice

Rinse the white rice under cold water until the water runs clear. In a pot, combine the rice, 4 cups of water, and salt. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 20 minutes or until the rice is fully cooked.

  2. 4

    Heat the Beans

In a separate saucepan, sauté the chopped onion and minced garlic in a little oil until translucent. Add the red beans (drained) and heat through. Season with salt to taste.

Sweet Plantains (Maduros)

  1. 5

    Prepare the Plantains

Peel the ripe plantains and slice them diagonally into about 1-inch thick pieces.

  2. 6

    Fry the Plantains

In a frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Fry the plantain slices for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until they are golden brown and caramelized. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Salad (Ensalada)

  1. 7

    Prepare the Salad

In a large bowl, toss together the chopped lettuce, diced tomato, and sliced cucumber. Drizzle with olive oil and vinegar, and sprinkle with salt to taste. Mix well.

Soda

  1. 8

    Serve the Soda

Chill the 12 oz cans of soda in the refrigerator before serving. Serve alongside the meal.
