Main Ingredients

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Soak the Rice

Rinse the long-grain white rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Place the rinsed rice in a bowl, add 4 cups of water, and let it soak for at least 4 hours or overnight.

  2. 2

    Blend the Mixture

After soaking, drain the rice and transfer it to a blender. Add 2 cups of fresh water, the cinnamon sticks, and blend until the mixture is smooth.

  3. 3

    Strain the Mixture

Pour the blended rice mixture through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a large pitcher, pressing down to extract as much liquid as possible. Discard the solid rice pulp.

  4. 4

    Add Remaining Ingredients

To the strained liquid, add the milk, vanilla extract, and sugar. Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved.

  5. 5

    Chill and Serve

Refrigerate the horchata for at least 1 hour before serving. Pour over ice if desired and sprinkle ground cinnamon on top for garnish.
