Potatoes

Method

Preparing Potatoes

  1. 1

    Wash and Cut Potatoes

Wash the russet potatoes thoroughly under cold running water to remove any dirt. Cut the potatoes into even sticks, about 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick, for uniform cooking.

  2. 2

    Soak Potatoes

Place the cut potatoes in a large bowl filled with cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps to remove excess starch and achieve a crispier fry.

Frying

  1. 3

    Heat Oil

In a large, heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to check the temperature for accuracy.

  2. 4

    Dry Potatoes

After soaking, drain the potatoes and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. This is crucial to avoid oil splatter.

  3. 5

    Fry Potatoes

Carefully add a handful of the dried potato sticks to the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry them for about 4-5 minutes or until golden brown and crisp.

  4. 6

    Drain and Season

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fries from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. While they are still hot, sprinkle with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika to taste.

Serving

  1. 7

    Serve Immediately

Transfer the seasoned fries to a serving platter and serve immediately while hot. Enjoy with your favorite dipping sauces!
