Jalapeños

Sugar Solution

Method

Preparation of Jalapeños

  1. 1

    Wash and Slice

Wash the fresh jalapeños thoroughly under cold water. Slice them in half lengthwise and remove the seeds if you prefer less heat.

Making the Sugar Solution

  1. 2

    Combine Ingredients

In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup of granulated sugar and 1 cup of water. Stir well to dissolve the sugar.

  2. 3

    Heat the Mixture

Place the saucepan over medium heat. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, stirring occasionally.

  3. 4

    Add Flavor Enhancers

Once the sugar has dissolved, add 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, 1 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, and 1 teaspoon of ground cumin to the saucepan. Stir well.

Candying the Jalapeños

  1. 5

    Add Jalapeños

Carefully add the sliced jalapeños to the pot with the sugar solution. Stir to ensure they are fully submerged in the liquid.

  2. 6

    Simmer

Reduce the heat to low and let the jalapeños simmer in the sugar solution for about 15-20 minutes. They should become tender and glossy.

  3. 7

    Cool and Store

After simmering, remove the saucepan from heat. Allow the jalapeños to cool in the syrup for at least 30 minutes. Once cooled, transfer them to a clean jar, including the syrup, and store in the refrigerator.
