Cake Pops

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Bake the Cake

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare a 9x13 inch baking pan according to the package instructions for the chocolate cake mix. In a large bowl, combine the cake mix, eggs, water, and vegetable oil. Mix until smooth and pour the batter into the prepared pan. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool completely.

  2. 2

    Crumble the Cake

Once the cake is completely cool, crumble it into a large bowl until there are no large pieces remaining.

  3. 3

    Mix with Frosting

Add the chocolate frosting to the crumbled cake and mix until fully combined. The mixture should be moist and easy to form into balls.

  4. 4

    Form Cake Balls

Using your hands, form small balls (about 1 inch in diameter) from the cake mixture and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Once all the mixture is formed into balls, place the baking sheet in the freezer for about 15-20 minutes to firm up.

  5. 5

    Melt the Chocolate

While the cake balls are chilling, melt the dark, milk, and white chocolate chips in separate bowls using a microwave or a double boiler. Stir until smooth.

  6. 6

    Dip the Cake Pops

Remove the cake balls from the freezer. Dip the end of each lollipop stick into the melted chocolate and then insert it into the center of each cake ball. This helps the stick to stay in place. Once all sticks are inserted, dip each cake pop into the melted chocolate coating of your choice (dark, milk, or white) and allow excess chocolate to drip off.

  7. 7

    Add Sprinkles

If desired, immediately add sprinkles to the cake pops before the chocolate sets. Place the finished pops back on the parchment-lined baking sheet.

  8. 8

    Set and Serve

Let the chocolate coating set at room temperature or refrigerate for a quicker setting time. Once set, serve your delicious triple chocolate cake pops!
