Method
Cooking Pasta
- 1
Boil Water
In a large pot, bring water to a rolling boil. Add 1 tablespoon of salt to the water.
- 2
Cook Fettuccine
Add the fettuccine pasta to the boiling water. Cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes.
- 3
Drain Pasta
Once cooked, drain the pasta in a colander and set aside. Reserve a cup of pasta water for later use.
Making Alfredo Sauce
- 4
Melt Butter
In a large skillet over medium heat, melt 1 cup of unsalted butter.
- 5
Add Garlic
Once the butter is melted, add 4 minced garlic cloves and sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn them.
- 6
Pour in Cream
Slowly add 2 cups of heavy cream to the skillet and stir to combine. Let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes.
- 7
Add Cheese and Seasoning
Gradually whisk in 1 cup of grated Parmesan cheese until melted and smooth. Season with 1 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of black pepper, and 1 teaspoon of grated nutmeg.
Combining Pasta and Sauce
- 8
Combine
Add the drained fettuccine to the skillet with the Alfredo sauce. Toss well to coat the pasta evenly. If the sauce is too thick, add reserved pasta water a little at a time until desired consistency is reached.
- 9
Serve
Transfer the Fettuccine Alfredo to serving plates or a large bowl. Garnish with chopped parsley and additional Parmesan cheese if desired.
