Olive Salad Preparation
- 1
Mix the Olive Salad
In a medium bowl, combine the green olives, Kalamata olives, celery, carrots, minced garlic, oregano, red wine vinegar, and olive oil. Stir until well mixed. Season with freshly ground black pepper to taste. Let sit for at least 30 minutes to allow flavors to meld.
Sandwich Assembly
- 2
Prepare the Bread
Slice the muffaletta bread in half horizontally. If the bread is too thick, you can hollow out some of the bread from the inside to make more room for the fillings.
- 3
Layer the Meats
On the bottom half of the bread, layer the salami, capicola, mortadella, and prosciutto evenly.
- 4
Add the Cheese
Place the provolone cheese and mozzarella cheese on top of the meats.
- 5
Top with Olive Salad
Spread the prepared olive salad evenly over the cheese layer.
- 6
Finish the Sandwich
Place the top half of the bread on the sandwich, pressing down gently. Optionally, you can wrap the sandwich in plastic wrap and let it sit for a few hours or overnight in the refrigerator to allow the flavors to develop.
- 7
Serve
Slice the muffaletta into wedges and serve. Enjoy your classic New Orleans sandwich!
