Prepare glass
If desired, chill the glass in the refrigerator or freezer for 5–10 minutes. Remove and ensure it's dry enough to hold ice.

Add ice
Fill the chilled glass about three-quarters full with ice cubes (approximately 1 cup). Use fresh ice to minimize dilution.

Pour cola
Open the chilled bottle or can of cola. Slowly pour 12 fl oz (one standard can or bottle portion) of cola down the side of the glass over the ice to preserve carbonation and reduce foaming.

Garnish (optional)
If you like, squeeze a lime wedge lightly over the surface for a hint of citrus, then drop the wedge into the drink. Add a maraschino cherry on top or on a pick for a retro touch.

Insert a straw or stirrer, give one gentle stir if desired, and serve immediately so the drink stays fizzy and cold.
