Method

Preparing the Rice

  1. 1

    Cook the Rice

In a medium saucepan, combine the white rice and water. Bring to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 18-20 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the water is absorbed. Remove from heat and let it sit covered for 5 minutes before fluffing with a fork.

Cooking the Hamburger Patty

  1. 2

    Prepare the Patties

In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat. Shape into two equal patties, about 1/2-inch thick.

  2. 3

    Cook the Patties

Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired doneness. Remove from the skillet and set aside.

Frying the Eggs

  1. 4

    Fry the Eggs

In the same skillet used for the patties, add the butter and let it melt over medium heat. Crack the eggs into the skillet and fry to your desired doneness. For sunny-side-up, cook until the whites are set but the yolks remain runny, about 2-3 minutes.

Making the Brown Gravy

  1. 5

    Prepare the Gravy

In the same skillet, melt the 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until golden brown. Gradually whisk in the beef broth, ensuring there are no lumps. Stir in the soy sauce and black pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook until thickened, about 5 minutes.

Assembling the Loco Moco

  1. 6

    Serve the Dish

On a plate, place a scoop of rice, top with a hamburger patty, then a fried egg. Generously ladle the brown gravy over the top. Serve immediately and enjoy your Loco Moco!
