Method

Biscuits

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C).

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk together until evenly mixed.

  3. 3

    Cut in Butter

Cut the unsalted butter into small cubes and add it to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  4. 4

    Add Buttermilk

Add the buttermilk to the mixture. Stir gently with a fork until just combined, being careful not to overmix.

  5. 5

    Shape the Biscuits

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently knead it 3-4 times. Pat the dough into a 1-inch thick rectangle and cut out biscuits using a round cutter.

  6. 6

    Bake

Place the biscuits on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.

Homemade Jam

  1. 7

    Prepare the Strawberries

Wash and hull the fresh strawberries. Cut them in half or quarters, depending on your preference.

  2. 8

    Cook the Jam

In a medium saucepan, combine the strawberries, granulated sugar, and lemon juice. Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently until the mixture comes to a boil.

  3. 9

    Simmer

Once boiling, reduce the heat and let the mixture simmer for about 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens.

  4. 10

    Cool and Store

Remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the jam to cool. Transfer to clean jars and store in the refrigerator.

Butter

  1. 11

    Soften the Butter

Take the unsalted butter out of the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature until soft and spreadable.
