Cake Ingredients

Method

Cake Directions

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk until well combined.

  3. 3

    Add Wet Ingredients

Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix on medium speed for about 2 minutes until well combined.

  4. 4

    Add Boiling Water

Carefully stir in the boiling water to the batter until smooth. The batter will be thin.

  5. 5

    Bake the Cakes

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool the Cakes

Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Frosting Directions

  1. 7

    Prepare the Frosting

In a medium bowl, beat the butter with a hand mixer until creamy. Gradually add the cocoa powder, mixing until well combined.

  2. 8

    Add Sugar and Milk

Add the powdered sugar and 1/4 cup of milk to the butter mixture. Beat until smooth and creamy. If the frosting is too thick, add more milk, one tablespoon at a time.

  3. 9

    Flavor the Frosting

Mix in the vanilla extract until fully incorporated.

  4. 10

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a generous amount of frosting on top, then place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.
