Cake and Mousse Ingredients
Method
Preparation Steps
- 1
Prepare the Cake
Preheat the oven to 175°C (350°F). Grease and flour an 8-inch round cake pan.
- 2
Melt Chocolate and Butter
In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the dark chocolate and unsalted butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring until melted and smooth.
- 3
Mix Sugar and Eggs
In a large mixing bowl, whisk the granulated sugar and eggs together until pale and fluffy.
- 4
Combine Mixtures
Pour the melted chocolate mixture into the egg mixture and stir until well combined. Add the flour and salt, and mix until just incorporated.
- 5
Bake the Cake
Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Let it cool completely.
- 6
Make the Mousse
In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until it forms stiff peaks. Gently fold in the vanilla extract.
- 7
Combine Mousse with Cake
Once the cake is cool, slice it in half horizontally. Spread half of the mousse on the bottom layer, then place the top layer back on and spread the remaining mousse on top.
- 8
Chill and Serve
Refrigerate the cake for at least 2 hours before serving to allow the mousse to set. Slice and enjoy!
