Preparation and Cooking
1. Prepare the Breading
In a medium bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix well.
2. Create the Batter
In another bowl, whisk together the milk and half of the dry mixture until smooth.
3. Coat the Cheese Curds
Dunk the cheddar cheese curds into the batter, then dredge them in the remaining dry mixture until fully coated.
4. Heat the Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
5. Fry the Cheese Curds
Carefully add the coated cheese curds to the hot oil in batches. Fry for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
6. Drain and Serve
Remove the fried cheese curds from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain. Serve hot with ranch dressing on the side.
