Method
Cake Preparation
Preheat oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
Mix dry ingredients
In a large bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, granulated sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
Combine mixtures
Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing just until combined. Then, carefully stir in the boiling water (the batter will be thin).
Bake
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Cool cakes
Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes, then remove from the pans and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Frosting Preparation
Make frosting
In a medium bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add the cocoa powder and powdered sugar, alternating with the milk, mixing until smooth. Stir in the vanilla extract.
Frost the cake
Once the cakes have completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a generous amount of frosting on top, then place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.
