Preparation Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Dough

In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until bubbly. Add melted butter, salt, and flour, then mix until a dough forms.

  2. 2

    Knead the Dough

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  3. 3

    Shape the Pretzels

Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C). Punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope and shape into a pretzel.

  4. 4

    Boil the Pretzels

In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water to a boil and add baking soda. Boil each pretzel for 30 seconds on each side. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  5. 5

    Bake the Pretzels

Brush each pretzel with melted butter and sprinkle coarse sea salt on top. Bake in the preheated oven for about 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
