Gravy

Method

Preparing the Hashbrowns

  1. 1

    Cook the Hashbrowns

In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, add the frozen hashbrowns in an even layer. Cook for about 5-7 minutes until they start to become golden brown.

  2. 2

    Add Onions

Sprinkle the diced onions evenly over the hashbrowns. Season with salt and black pepper. Continue cooking for another 5-7 minutes until the hashbrowns are crispy and the onions are soft and translucent.

Making the Gravy

  1. 3

    Prepare the Roux

In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Once melted, whisk in the flour until the mixture turns a light golden color, about 2-3 minutes.

  2. 4

    Add Liquid Ingredients

Gradually whisk in the milk and beef broth, ensuring there are no lumps. Continue to stir until the gravy thickens, approximately 5-7 minutes.

  3. 5

    Season the Gravy

Add salt and black pepper to the gravy, adjusting to taste. Remove from heat once thickened.

Serving

  1. 6

    Combine and Serve

Once the hashbrowns are crispy, remove them from heat and sprinkle the shredded cheese on top. Pour the hot gravy over the cheese and hashbrowns. Serve immediately while hot.
