Method
Base Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Biscuits
Preheat your oven according to the biscuit package instructions. Bake the biscuits until golden brown, following the time indicated on the package.
- 2
Chop Vegetables
While the biscuits are baking, dice the green bell pepper and onion into small pieces.
Sausage Gravy Preparation
- 3
Cook the Sausage
In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground sausage until browned and fully cooked, breaking it up with a spatula as it cooks.
- 4
Make the Roux
Once the sausage is cooked, sprinkle the flour over the sausage and stir well to combine. Cook for about 1-2 minutes to remove the raw flour taste.
- 5
Add Milk
Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring constantly. Bring the mixture to a simmer and allow it to thicken, about 5-7 minutes.
- 6
Season the Gravy
Add black pepper and salt to taste, stirring to incorporate.
Assembly
- 7
Assemble the Dish
Once the biscuits are done, split them in half and place them on a plate. Top each half with a generous amount of sausage gravy.
- 8
Add Toppings
Sprinkle cheddar cheese, diced green peppers, and onions over the gravy, followed by the crumbled sausage or bacon.
- 9
Serve
Serve immediately while hot, and enjoy your meal!
