Biscuits

Method

Biscuits

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon of baking powder, and 0.5 teaspoon of salt. Mix well.

  3. 3

    Add Butter

Cut in 0.5 cups of unsalted butter into the flour mixture using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  4. 4

    Add Milk

Pour in 0.75 cups of milk and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.

  5. 5

    Form Biscuits

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently 2-3 times. Pat or roll out to about 1-inch thickness, then cut out biscuits using a biscuit cutter or a glass.

  6. 6

    Bake Biscuits

Place the biscuits on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.

Gravy

  1. 7

    Cook Sausage

In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook 1 pound of breakfast sausage until browned and fully cooked, breaking it up with a spatula as it cooks.

  2. 8

    Make Roux

Sprinkle 0.25 cups of all-purpose flour over the cooked sausage and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly.

  3. 9

    Add Milk

Gradually whisk in 2 cups of milk, stirring constantly to avoid lumps. Bring the mixture to a simmer.

  4. 10

    Season Gravy

Add 0.5 teaspoons of salt, 0.5 teaspoons of black pepper, and 0.25 teaspoons of red pepper flakes. Stir and let the gravy simmer for 5-7 minutes until thickened.
