Method

Prepare the Onions

  1. 1

    Slice the Onions

Peel the onions and cut them into 1/4-inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set them aside in a bowl.

Make the Batter

  1. 2

    Combine Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, ground black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder until well combined.

  2. 3

    Add Cold Water

Gradually pour in the cold sparkling water while whisking continuously until the batter is smooth and has a thick consistency. Let it sit for about 10 minutes.

Fry the Onion Rings

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 5

    Dip and Fry

Dip each onion ring into the batter, allowing excess batter to drip off. Carefully place the battered onion rings into the hot oil, frying them in batches to avoid overcrowding.

  3. 6

    Cook Until Golden Brown

Fry the onion rings for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Serve

  1. 7

    Garnish and Enjoy

Serve the crispy onion rings hot with your favorite dipping sauce, such as ranch or ketchup.
