Pie Crust

Topping (optional)

Method

Pie Crust Preparation

  1. 1

    Make the Dough

In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt. Add the cold, cubed butter and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  2. 2

    Add Water

Gradually add the ice water, 1 tablespoon at a time, mixing with a fork until the dough comes together. Do not overwork the dough.

  3. 3

    Chill Dough

Divide the dough in half, shape into disks, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

Apple Filling Preparation

  1. 4

    Prepare the Apples

Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin slices. Place them in a large bowl.

  2. 5

    Mix Filling Ingredients

Add the sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, cornstarch, and vanilla extract to the apples. Toss until the apples are evenly coated.

  3. 6

    Let it Sit

Allow the apple mixture to sit for about 15 minutes to release some juices.

Assembling the Pie

  1. 7

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

  2. 8

    Roll Out the Dough

On a floured surface, roll out one disk of dough to fit your pie pan. Transfer it to the pan and trim the edges.

  3. 9

    Add Apple Filling

Pour the apple filling into the prepared pie crust, spreading it evenly.

  4. 10

    Top with Second Crust

Roll out the second disk of dough and place it over the filling. Trim and crimp the edges to seal. Cut slits in the top to allow steam to escape.

  5. 11

    Optional Topping

Melt the butter, then brush it over the pie crust. Sprinkle sugar and cinnamon on top for added sweetness.

  6. 12

    Bake the Pie

Bake in the preheated oven for 45 to 50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the apples are tender.

Cooling and Serving

  1. 13

    Cool Down

Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack for at least 2 hours before slicing.

  2. 14

    Serve

Slice and serve the pie warm or at room temperature, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
