Method

Preparing the Scallops

  1. 1

    Clean and Dry Scallops

Rinse the sea scallops under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels. This helps to remove any excess moisture, which is important for frying.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Breading

In a shallow bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, salt, black pepper, and paprika. In another bowl, whisk together the egg and milk until well combined.

  3. 3

    Coat the Scallops

Dip each scallop first into the egg mixture and then dredge in the flour mixture, ensuring they are fully coated. Set aside on a plate.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test the oil by dropping a small piece of bread into it; if it sizzles, it's ready.

  5. 5

    Fry the Scallops

Carefully place the coated scallops in the hot oil, frying in batches if necessary. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

Preparing the French Fries

  1. 6

    Cut the Potatoes

Wash and peel the russet potatoes. Cut them into thin strips to form fries.

  2. 7

    Soak the Fries

Place the cut fries in a bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps to remove excess starch and will make them crispier.

  3. 8

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

  4. 9

    Fry the Fries

Fry the soaked fries in batches for about 5-7 minutes until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Season with salt to taste.

Preparing the Cole Slaw

  1. 10

    Shred the Vegetables

Finely shred the green cabbage and grate the carrot.

  2. 11

    Mix the Dressing

In a large bowl, combine the mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, sugar, salt, and black pepper. Stir until well mixed.

  3. 12

    Combine

Add the shredded cabbage and carrot to the dressing. Toss to coat evenly and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving.

Preparing the Tartar Sauce

  1. 13

    Combine Ingredients

In a small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, dill pickle relish, lemon juice, and capers until well combined. Adjust seasoning to taste.
