Preparation of Croque Madame

Assemble the Sandwich
Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F). Take two slices of sourdough bread and layer each with a slice of jambon and a generous amount of Gruyère cheese. Top with another slice of sourdough.

Cook the Sandwich
In a skillet over medium heat, melt a tablespoon of butter. Carefully place the sandwiches in the skillet and cook until golden brown on one side, about 3-4 minutes. Flip and cook the other side, adding more butter as needed.

Bake the Sandwich
Transfer the sandwiches to the preheated oven and bake for about 5 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Serve
Once the sandwiches are out of the oven, place a fried egg on top of each sandwich. Serve immediately with a side of petite salad.

Mix the Salad
In a bowl, combine the mixed greens and cherry tomatoes. Drizzle with olive oil and balsamic vinegar, then season with salt and pepper to taste. Toss gently to combine.
