Galette Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Filling
In a large bowl, combine the blackberries, sliced apples, granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, and lemon juice. Toss gently to combine and set aside to let the flavors meld.
- 2
Make the Dough
In a mixing bowl, combine 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 cup granulated sugar. Cut in 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add 4-6 tablespoons of ice water, a tablespoon at a time, until the dough holds together. Shape into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- 3
Assemble the Galette
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface into a 12-inch circle. Transfer to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Spoon the blackberry-apple filling onto the center of the dough, leaving a 2-inch border. Fold the edges of the dough over the filling, pleating as necessary.
- 4
Bake the Galette
Brush the crust with an egg wash (1 egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water) and sprinkle with additional sugar. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
- 5
Serve
Let the galette cool slightly before slicing. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.
