Preparation Steps

1

Prepare the Glass

Begin by chilling an old fashioned glass or a lowball glass by placing it in the freezer or filling it with ice water for a few minutes.

2

Mix the Sugar and Bitters

In a mixing glass, combine the demerara sugar and Angostura bitters. Muddle them together until the sugar is mostly dissolved.

3

Add the Bourbon

Pour the Kentucky bourbon into the mixing glass with the muddled sugar and bitters mixture. Stir gently to combine.

4

Add Ice

Fill the mixing glass with ice cubes and stir the mixture for about 20-30 seconds until well chilled.

5

Strain into the Glass

Remove the chilled glass from the freezer or discard the ice water. Strain the bourbon mixture into the glass over a large ice cube or fresh ice.

6

Garnish

Express the oils from the orange peel over the drink by holding it skin side down over the glass and giving it a twist. Drop the peel into the drink for garnish.
