Method
Prepare the Bread Dough
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water and sugar. Sprinkle yeast on top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center.
- 3
Combine Ingredients
Pour the activated yeast mixture and olive oil into the well of the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms.
- 4
Knead the Dough
On a floured surface, knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 5
First Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
Prepare the Filling and Shape the Bread
- 6
Prepare Filling
While the dough is rising, prepare the filling by mixing the mozzarella and parmesan cheese in a bowl.
- 7
Shape the Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle about 12x18 inches.
- 8
Layer the Ingredients
Spread the pesto sauce evenly over the rolled-out dough. Then sprinkle the cheese mixture over the pesto, followed by dollops of marinara sauce.
- 9
Braid the Dough
Cut the dough lengthwise into 3-4 strips. Carefully braid the strips together, pinching the ends to seal.
Bake the Bread
- 10
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- 11
Second Rise
Place the braided bread on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover and let it rise for another 30 minutes.
- 12
Bake
Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.
- 13
Cool and Serve
Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve warm.
