Chill the Glass
Begin by chilling an Old Fashioned glass by placing it in the freezer or filling it with ice water while you prepare the drink.

Prepare the Glass with Absinthe
Discard the ice water from the chilled Old Fashioned glass (if using ice water). Add 0.5 oz of absinthe to the glass, swirling it around to coat the inside, then discard any excess absinthe.

Strain the Mixture
Strain the chilled rye whiskey mixture into the prepared glass.

Garnish
Express the oils from the lemon peel over the drink and then drop it in as a garnish.
