Main Ingredients

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Chill the Glass

Begin by chilling an Old Fashioned glass by placing it in the freezer or filling it with ice water while you prepare the drink.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Sugar

In a mixing glass, add the sugar cube and 2 dashes of Peychaud's bitters. Muddle together until the sugar is dissolved.

  3. 3

    Add Rye Whiskey

Pour 2 oz of rye whiskey into the mixing glass with the muddled sugar and bitters mixture. Add ice and stir gently until well chilled.

  4. 4

    Prepare the Glass with Absinthe

Discard the ice water from the chilled Old Fashioned glass (if using ice water). Add 0.5 oz of absinthe to the glass, swirling it around to coat the inside, then discard any excess absinthe.

  5. 5

    Strain the Mixture

Strain the chilled rye whiskey mixture into the prepared glass.

  6. 6

    Garnish

Express the oils from the lemon peel over the drink and then drop it in as a garnish.
