Method

Preparation of Ginger Syrup

  1. 1

    Peel and Slice Ginger

Peel the fresh ginger and slice it into thin pieces. You will need about 1 cup of sliced ginger.

  2. 2

    Boil Ginger with Water

In a medium saucepan, add the sliced ginger and 4 cups of water. Bring to a boil over medium heat.

  3. 3

    Simmer and Add Sugar

Once boiling, reduce the heat and let it simmer for 10 minutes. After simmering, add 1 cup of granulated sugar and stir until fully dissolved.

  4. 4

    Strain the Ginger Syrup

Remove the saucepan from heat. Use a fine mesh strainer to strain the ginger syrup into a bowl, discarding the solid ginger pieces.

  5. 5

    Add Lemon Juice

To the strained syrup, add 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice and mix well.

Mixing the Gingerale

  1. 6

Combine Ginger Syrup and Carbonated Water

In a large pitcher, combine the ginger syrup with 4 cups of carbonated water. Stir gently to combine, being careful not to lose too much carbonation.

  2. 7

    Taste and Adjust Sweetness

Taste the mixture and adjust the sweetness if necessary by adding more sugar or ginger syrup to your liking.

  3. 8

    Serve

Pour the ginger ale into individual glasses over ice. Optionally, garnish with lemon slices and fresh mint leaves.
