Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Ingredients

Gather all the ingredients required for the recipe. Wash the fresh basil leaves thoroughly and pat them dry. Peel the garlic cloves and set aside.

  2. 2

    Toast the Pine Nuts

In a dry skillet over medium heat, add the pine nuts. Toast them for about 3-5 minutes, stirring frequently, until they are golden brown. Remove from heat and let cool.

Blending

  1. 3

    Blend the Ingredients

In a food processor, combine the fresh basil, garlic cloves, toasted pine nuts, and Parmesan cheese. Pulse until finely chopped.

  2. 4

    Add Olive Oil

With the food processor running, slowly drizzle in the olive oil until the mixture is creamy and smooth. Scrape down the sides as necessary.

  3. 5

    Season the Pesto

Add salt and black pepper to taste. Optionally, you can add lemon juice and red pepper flakes for extra flavor.

Bottling

  1. 6

    Transfer to Jars

Carefully transfer the pesto into clean glass jars. Leave some space at the top of each jar to allow for expansion.

  2. 7

    Seal and Store

Seal the jars tightly with lids and store in the refrigerator. The pesto can also be frozen for longer storage.
