Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Steak

Remove the Japanese Wagyu A5 New York Strip from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes before cooking. This helps ensure even cooking.

  2. 2

    Season the Steak

Pat the steak dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. Generously season both sides of the steak with sea salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Heat the Pan

Heat a cast-iron skillet or heavy-bottomed pan over medium-high heat until it is very hot. Add olive oil and heat until shimmering.

  2. 4

    Cook the Steak

Carefully place the seasoned steak in the hot pan. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on one side without moving it to achieve a nice sear.

  3. 5

    Flip the Steak

Using tongs, flip the steak and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes for medium-rare, or until your desired doneness is reached. Use a meat thermometer for accuracy (130°F for medium-rare).

  4. 6

    Rest the Steak

Once cooked, remove the steak from the pan and place it on a cutting board. Tent it loosely with aluminum foil and let it rest for 5-10 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute.

Serving

  1. 7

    Slice and Garnish

Slice the steak against the grain to enhance tenderness. Optionally, garnish with fresh herbs before serving.

  2. 8

    Serve

Serve the sliced steak on a warm plate. Enjoy with your favorite side dishes and sauces.
