Method
Cake Preparation
- 1
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- 2
Prepare Ramekins
Grease four ramekins with butter and dust with flour to prevent sticking. Place them on a baking sheet for easy handling.
- 3
Melt Chocolate and Butter
In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the unsalted butter and semi-sweet chocolate chips. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until melted and smooth.
- 4
Mix Sugar and Eggs
In a separate bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, eggs, egg yolks, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- 5
Combine Mixtures
Pour the melted chocolate mixture into the egg mixture and stir until fully incorporated.
- 6
Add Dry Ingredients
Sift in the all-purpose flour and salt, then gently fold the mixture until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
- 7
Fill Ramekins
Divide the batter evenly among the prepared ramekins, filling each about 2/3 full.
- 8
Bake
Bake in the preheated oven for 12-14 minutes, or until the edges are set but the center is still soft.
- 9
Cool Slightly
Remove from the oven and let the cakes sit for 1 minute. Carefully invert each ramekin onto a plate.
Serving Preparation
- 10
Dust with Powdered Sugar
Dust the tops of each lava cake with powdered sugar for a decorative touch.
- 11
Add Ice Cream
Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side to complement the rich chocolate flavor.
