Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease four ramekins with butter and lightly dust with cocoa powder to prevent sticking.

  2. 2

    Melt the Butter

In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the unsalted butter until completely liquid. Set aside to cool slightly.

Mixing

  1. 3

    Combine Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt until well combined.

  2. 4

    Blend Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.

  3. 5

    Combine Mixtures

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix; some lumps are okay.

Baking

  1. 6

    Fill Ramekins

Divide the batter evenly among the prepared ramekins, filling each about 3/4 full.

  2. 7

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 12-14 minutes, or until the edges are firm but the center is still soft.

  3. 8

    Cool and Serve

Remove from the oven and let cool for 1 minute. Carefully invert each ramekin onto a serving plate, tapping gently to release the cake. Dust with powdered sugar and serve immediately with vanilla ice cream.
