Preparing the Fabric
- 1
Measure Your Fabric
Start by measuring and cutting your hooded sweatshirt fabric to the desired size based on your pattern. You will need two pieces for the front and back, and two sleeves.
- 2
Cut the Ribbing
Cut the ribbing fabric into strips for cuffs and waistband. You will need approximately 2 strips for the cuffs and 1 strip for the waistband.
Sewing the Hoodie
- 3
Sew the Shoulder Seams
Pin the front and back pieces together at the shoulder seams and sew them using a straight stitch. Repeat for the other shoulder.
- 4
Attach the Sleeves
Pin the sleeves to the armholes, ensuring they are aligned properly. Sew them in place using a straight stitch.
- 5
Sew the Side Seams
Once the sleeves are attached, pin the side seams of the hoodie together and sew from the bottom of the hoodie to the end of the sleeves.
- 6
Create the Hood
Cut out two pieces for the hood, pin them right sides together, and sew along the curved edge. Turn it right side out and attach it to the neckline.
- 7
Add the Ribbing
Sew the ribbing strips to the cuffs and waistband, stretching them slightly as you sew to ensure a snug fit.
- 8
Insert the Drawstring
Using a safety pin, thread the drawstring through the hood and the waistband. Adjust to your desired fit.
- 9
Finish the Hem
Finally, finish the bottom hem of the hoodie by folding it over and sewing it in place.
- 10
Iron the Hoodie
Iron the finished hoodie to remove any wrinkles and ensure all seams lay flat.
