Method

Bread Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate the Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently to dissolve and let it sit for about 5 to 10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Make the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Create a well in the center and add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.

  3. 3

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    First Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  5. 5

    Shape the Bread

Punch down the risen dough and shape it into a loaf. Place it in a greased bread pan.

  6. 6

    Second Rise

Cover the loaf with a cloth and let it rise again for about 30 minutes until it has risen above the rim of the pan.

  7. 7

    Bake the Bread

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the loaf for 30-35 minutes until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.

Gravy Preparation

  1. 8

    Melt the Butter

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter.

  2. 9

    Make the Roux

Once melted, whisk in the flour and cook for about 2 minutes, stirring constantly until it becomes slightly golden.

  3. 10

    Add the Broth

Gradually whisk in the chicken broth, ensuring no lumps form. Bring to a simmer.

  4. 11

    Add Milk

Stir in the milk and continue to cook, stirring frequently, until the gravy thickens (about 5-7 minutes).

  5. 12

    Season the Gravy

Add salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Stir well and adjust seasoning to taste.
